Testing Bluetooth
According to Bluetooth SIG, Inc., “Bluetooth wireless technology is a short-range communications system intended to replace the cables connecting portable and/or fixed electronic devices. The Bluetooth Core System consists of an RF transceiver, baseband, and protocol stack. The system offers services that enable the connection of devices and the exchange of a variety of data classes between these devices.”
The physical-layer specifications for Bluetooth can be found at http://www.bluetooth.com/Bluetooth/Technology/Works/Architecture__Radio.htm. In addition, this same reference provides the transmitter and receiver characteristics that will determine the procedures and measurements used to test Bluetooth devices.
Since Bluetooth shares the same spectrum as WiFi and WiMAX (e.g. 2.4 GHz), LitePoint takes advantage of its current WiFi (IQflex/IQflex), WiMAX (IQmax) and Multi-Radio (IQ2010) test platforms to test Bluetooth. This requires only an optional software package.
